Podcasting Format Interviews
This format has a particular bonus in that the podcaster is able to provide well-documented information and direct interviews with his or her listeners. The podcaster can interview a wide variety of people on different topics, or affiliate of people who are well known. This also gives the podcaster a greater capacity for gaining a wide audience in that each person may or may not have their own group of fans which are particularly interested in them. These types of topics for an interview podcasting format can be interesting and factual. One of the main reasons that interview podcasts are a fine podcasting format is that most listeners want the inside scoop of people that have done well in any field. Most people tend to learn by example so when they get the chance to listen to someone who is successful in his or her field, they are more likely to learn something about what they can do you in their future. This increases the capacity for interest in the podcast. Surprisingly, most people will not turn down a podcast interview. This is particularly interesting because some people, who may not normally do interviews, may be more conducive to a podcast interview because he or she does not have to appear in person in the interview can easily be fit into their schedule over the phone or via an Internet conference call. In addition, most people will enjoy knowing that their name is gotten out there to a new, or old, audience. Most people enjoy discussing what they do for a living, as long as they are asked the right questions. The benefits of this podcasting format do not stop at what is mentioned above; as the interviewer, all the podcaster has to do is make up a series of questions. The subject that is being interviewed will provide the answers to these questions. This means that the podcaster only has to create 50% of the content. This is a major benefit to anyone who is worrying about making a long, interesting podcast. Interviewing is a smart podcasting format, but, like all podcasting formats, it takes different types of podcasters. Review all of the podcast formats within this chapter before deciding what podcast format to use. There is one important as well as legal factor in interviewing; please get a signed contract from the interviewee. This contract will state that it is ok for the podcaster to publish this content. Without this, the podcaster could end up in a lot of trouble showed the interviewee decide that he or she did not want information published about him or her. Avoid all of this trouble by remembering that if you choose to use an interview, contracts are a must for publishing any interview performed. It is also important to make sure that the interviewee does not feel like the podcast will degrade him or her; this can be a big hassle to deal with. If the interviewee is more famous then the podcaster, then the podcaster runs into some serious issues depending on the information that is published. It is very important to stay polite, formal, and respectful when conducting an interview. While it is okay to ask some controversial questions, try not to get into it argumentative debate with the interviewee. Avoid being rude, using degrading language, or stepping past the interviewee's comfort zone. It can be helpful to first conduct a pre-interview with the interviewee in order to identify what is and is not comfortable for him or her. If you do however decide to go with an interview format, it is very easy to find other people whom would make good interview subjects. For example, if the podcast was on a subject such as 'search engine optimization', then the podcaster may be able to find a well-known and respected figure within the podcasting community or elsewhere who is very familiar with this topic. Using a person who is familiar with the topic makes it very easy to gain a strong and asked listener base.
