Podcasting Equipment Needed
In addition to the free software previously discusses, there are some things that need to be purchased to podcast. This equipment is necessary for recording, as well as for playing back the recording to make sure it came out correctly. The items you buy should always be of a good quality, especially if they will be used for recording the podcast. The better the product, the better the quality of the podcast. If your podcast will be promoted throughout the Internet, the sound is very important, and cheap equipment will not give you optimum results. Microphones To do a podcast, it is important to record it in some way. The primary way in which podcasts are recorded is with the use of a recording device, such as a microphone. Microphones are not very expensive and can range from tens to hundreds of dollars, depending on the type. When choosing a microphone, make sure that it is compatible with your computer. Make sure to go with a reliable brand name. Often, people will purchase cheaper microphones made by off-brand companies. The problem with this is that the reception can be horrible and can make the podcast completely ineffective. Purchasing the wrong tool can be costly, even if it is a small amount of money. Do not waste time or money by purchasing inferior quality equipment. Podcasting Equipment Tips If the equipment used to create, edit, and publish your podcast is old or outdated, then the podcast itself will not be of the best quality. An old microphone can produce scratchy sound and can distort the sound in unpleasant ways. A slow computer will make it very hard to compile and edit the podcast and can make uploading it a very difficult process. An old dial-up Internet connection also will cause a lot of problems. Newer software and equipment will have more features, be more user-friendly, and work more efficiently and effectively. It is smart to check often for software updates or equipment upgrades that can provide the same or better results. This is also important for equipment - newer equipment is generally going to be better. Microphones are the most important aspect of any podcast broadcast. If, at any point, the microphone starts to emit strange noises, scratches, or other distortions, it is time to replace it. Since they are relatively inexpensive, this is not too much of an issue. Do not use just one suite of podcast editing software; many of the editors have their unique features that give you the ability to see what different kinds of edits can be done. There are also many different editing options in most editing programs; just make sure to take advantage of the fact that most of the editors are free and that they all can be very helpful when podcasting.
