Pioneer of Podcasting Dave Winer
Winer was also the person who made the enclosure feature available. This feature is a main reason for the popularity of podcasting. As if this was not enough for Winer's resume, he also owns two other companies - Living Videotext and Userland Software. Due to these achievements, Winer was an amazing creator. He not only developed his own state-of-the-art tags to help podcasters all across the Internet, but he was also able to manage two companies in the software development business successfully. The first BloggerCon was held in October of 2003 and the second BloggerCon was in 2004. Winer and his friends created these conventions of modern day bloggers. The yearly event is held at Harvard Law School. All the people who were invited to BloggerCon or who decided to go were introduced to Dave Winer's enclosure tag, helping to make podcasting even more popular. Coupled with the fact that anyone would have the ability to hold a broadcast for their listeners that can be downloaded automatically to the listener's Apple iPod device or home computer, there has been a strong push of development in blog history in the years of 2003-2004. Winer was an employee of Userland. When he left the company, he decided to hold on to the domain Weblogs.com, which had a free server. Almost all blog applications were using this free server at the time. The free hosting was something that helped many early bloggers get into the podcasting act because the Internet was running at a much slower place at that time. Hosting was a bit more expensive than most could afford, and Winer's decided to help people out by allowing them to host blogs for free. This is one reason why he is so often called a pioneer of podcasting; not only did he create the technology to making podcasting possible, but he also helped some of the first podcasters get into the game.
