How To Podcast

Many Educational Uses of Podcasting

Additional resources that teachers and professors are providing through the art of podcasting include recording books and having them assessable by the entire student body. In the college arena this gives students a way to 'sample' a class's curriculum before committing to completing the class. This curriculum 'sampling' has helped broaden the horizons of many students and give them the opportunity to branch out into fields they may not have considered. This is a short example of some of the basic curriculum provided to students throughout the majority of campuses currently:
  • Vocabulary Work
  • Foreign Speech Lessons
  • Interviews With Pupils
These educational advancements and resources have helped students around the world learn, due to easier access to teachers, professors, or simply basic lessons.

An additional academic resource currently used with podcasting is a type of 'journal digest'. These types of podcasts are often informational, but the subject can depend on what the listener or student is studying. With the many different educational fields podcasting is used in, the listener can find a journals digest on 'Cataract Symptom Information' or even 'The Mind of a Teacher' with the wide variety of options. Often professors record these journals or teachers in the specific field and can provide a great amount of information and prove to be very helpful study guides. Either for academic or personal growth, podcasting has provided a new and exciting resource to the educational world.

There are also great resources for teachers or professors working on their own curriculum. This gives newer teachers the ability to listen to and understand how a lesson plan should be created. Often these informative podcasts are curriculum specific. Never before have there been so many resources available to educators or students.

Colleges and teachers are not the only groups that currently use podcasting for educational purposes. The United States government also does many different types of podcasts to alert the public of important events and political events in an effort to keep the public more educated. Both the Democratic and Republican parties, along with other social and political groups, use podcasting as an additional medium to get their message to their member base. Often this can include political speeches or political updates; this is especially rampant during an election year. For example, every recorded speech that has been done by a United States President is available on podcast. This is not only done for presidential speeches, but most political speeches that were given within the last 20 years by a notable political figure are available through podcast.

It is no surprise that the government has begun podcasting. As more and more of the public want to listen on their own schedule, more political debates are put on a recordable medium. With few recordable mediums as convenient and versatile as podcasts, podcasting has created a new arena for political debate and discussion. One benefit sought after by the politicians during interviews and provided through podcasting is that the audience or listeners hear only what the politician said without the twist often associated with mainstream media. The ability to speak directly to their public has made many politicians turn to podcasting their message and political agenda on a very regular basis.

Podcasting allows people who work odd hours to access any type of political speech they miss and gives them the opportunity to listen to it at the own leisure. This helps create a more educated population when it comes to political matters. While not everyone may be available to listen to the president's next plan of action, most people are interested in what it may entail. By providing a reach similar to TV's On Demand or Tivo, podcasting gives people the opportunity to catch up on any event, political or otherwise, when the listener chooses and if he or she chooses.

Another form of educational podcast is religion-based. There are many different 'God castings' on the Internet on almost any religion a listener could desire. Through the use of podcasting many preachers, priests, and other religious figures have extended their congregation to the depths of the Internet. From Christianity to Buddhism a listener can hear about the teachings of any religion. This has provided a religious refuge for those who may have to work on a day of worship or for those that would just like a little more time with God. Offering religious teachings through podcasts has become a pillar of many online congregations.
