History of Podcasting
This is one reason why there are so many more podcasters sending out their messages to the world today. Nothing holds a podcaster back from having his or her thoughts heard through this media outlet. Have a thought to share, an opinion that needs to be heard, or knowledge for others to learn? Go ahead. Pick up a microphone, set up your computer, and get started. From 2000 through 2004, podcasting stuck to a relatively small community of people intent on spreading their message through the world. With the advances of technology and knowledge, podcasting has become a cheap and effective method to spread a message. The podcasting community has expanded quickly and with fervor. With the birth of such companies as Napster, Bearshare, Kazaa, and other down loadable file sharing programs, the Internet became the prime method of distributing information in a wide variety of forms. However, not all forms were safe, which is one reason podcasting hit the Internet so hard. Audio blogging at the BloggerCon community also helped spread the word about podcasting; membership at this community went from just a few hundred to a few thousand. So much information was made available for anyone who wanted to start his or her own podcasting. By the year 2007, thousands and thousands of podcasters are being heard, are recording their own shows, or are listening to the latest show from their favorite authors on an MP3 player or iTunes program. The amazing convenience of podcasting is another reason this medium has spread like wildfire. A once-upon-a-time small community of a few hundred Webmasters who had a dream of streaming media and freedom of speech grew to thousands of podcasters sharing ideas, thoughts, knowledge, and information throughout the world so that others may benefit from knowledge, and information can be shared with everyone. So many people are joining the podcasting revolution each and every day. However, just because so many others are working so hard to podcast throughout the world does not mean that there is no room for new thoughts and ideas. If more people become involved, more information will reach new audiences. Regardless of whether you could call podcasting a 'better blog' or something entirely new, this medium is most definitely a continually growing field. Real people are writing the history of podcasting in real time with new advances in the field everyday. At least for now, it appears that podcasting will stay a free medium where people can express their own thoughts without having any type of governmental regulation (such as the FCC). The only real judge of podcasting is its viewers. Podcasting is one of the real freedoms on the Internet and, unlike many other mediums; podcasting can be recorded and distributed at no cost as long as the podcaster has a microphone, a computer, and an Internet connection.
