How To Podcast

Finding Your First Podcast

Now that you have become more familiar with podcasting, it is time to find some better ways of locating a podcast. While we have been asked to exploring the history of podcasting, you will still need to be able to find a podcast that would be interesting to you. Finding a podcast on any topic is very easy and can take as little as five minutes. There are many tools that any podcaster can use in order to find their first podcast. However, prior to looking for a podcast, please make sure that you have all of the appropriate equipment necessary for listening to a podcast. This equipment may include:
  • A working computer that can go online
  • Internet Explorer, Fire Fox, MSN, or any other internet browser
  • A pair of headphones or speakers in order to listen to a podcast
  • A program or software that can play a podcast such as iTunes
Finding a podcast on the right subject can be very tricky. It is in the best interest of the listener to look for a podcast on a topic that is interesting to that listener. Not all podcasts are created equally, which is why podcasting directories provide all Internet users with a sample show or a small podcast which discusses or summarizes the podcast. This little preview or summary can help all pod casters know if they would be interested in listening or watching the podcast itself. Using these directories can be very helpful as they can be very time-saving. Rather than having to visit each podcast website, a listener can go to a directory and skim over a wide variety of podcasts on that subject in order to find one that he or she would be interested in.

Another great resource in order to find a podcast that a listener would be very interested in would be to listen to you and perhaps subscribe to a program called iTunes. This program is very helpful and provides a directory of its own that will search through a wide variety of podcasts available for listening. It is a free program available through Apple and can be downloaded for free by any potential podcast listener. In addition, this program can also be used for listening to music and CDs as well as music videos or movies.

A common misconception by most people is that iTunes can only be used by Macintosh computers, which is not true. Other people also misunderstand the purpose of iTunes and assume that this program should only be used by an Apple iPod. ITunes can be used by anyone with any type of computer as long as it has been downloaded and installed onto the computer. All that it means in order to run is an Internet connection, speakers, a computer, and an end user. However it can also be used in conjunction with any MP3 player. ITunes can easily be used from your home computer and is a great resource for everyone.

While you may be concerned that you would have to download something in order to search for a variety of podcasts this is not an issue. There are many websites that provide podcasting resources and can be used to help any listener finds the podcast that they desire. These podcasting directories at such as 'The Podcasting Alley' which was mentioned earlier, allow anyone sooner to search a large database of podcasts.

This site is a helpful resource for all potential podcast users in which they can search for podcasts on a particular subject. This site is also a podcasting community; it provides a forum for other podcasters to network with each other, communicate with each other, develop a top podcasting list, submit their podcasting communities or directories, and submit their podcasts. Any visitor can use the site to browse the top podcasting less, view a most recently published podcasting list, or network with other podcasters and listeners.
